When you can finally listen to Thomas Dybdahl again
When you’re able to keep the seasonal depression at bay
When freckles and no money is perfectly all right
When you have vacations at dad’s and Ireland to look forward to
When you have your uncle’s old jacket and messy hair
When I am going to have you and you don’t know it yet.

Anonymous: I used to see a psychologist, but it did not help me at all. We just sat around awkwardly making conversation for two years while she convinced me to take meds. I've seen several psychologists before that as well, but no one has been able to help me, which makes me fear that maybe I can't be helped, maybe I need to get out of this myself? I don't know if I'm strong enough to do that.
As you know, I’m no professional, and personally I only profited from cognitive therapy, which I discovered after a fair few bad psychologists. Instead of sitting around talking about my problems and how I feel about them (which I don’t think will help anyone, at least I only ended up constantly focusing on how bad everything was and feel sorry for myself), in cognitive therapy we focused on how to solve the problems and what I could do to break the bad habits.
But of course neither therapy or medications will magically solve everything, so either way you will have to stop self harming and continue to resist by yourself. But I definitely think that you can do it! In my experience we’re all much more stronger than we give ourselves credit for:)
For my part the trick was endless amounts of self discipline and staying motivated, and going for the “just hold on for another minute, and then another etcetcetc” method.
Find something that works for you and stick to it! Just keep in mind that it’ll most likely take a long, long time (it did for me) so that you won’t lose heart midway.
And please keep in mind also that I am in no way a professional, and can only tell you what worked for me and what didn’t, so my advice isn’t necessarily any good!
this is so stupid that its just hilarious
